Get Organized!

I found last year that it was very hard to educate my two children that were on different grade levels at the same table.  This year I hope to have them at separate work spaces.

It is very useful to have things that the children need regularly where the children can get these things for themselves.  The less busy work I have to do for them the more we get done and the more time I have for younger children.

We also have a very large bookcase right by our work area that has the curriculum for each child separate. This takes quite a bit of tidying on a daily basis but I would go crazy if things were not where I could find them easily.  Children also seem to get totally off task if you waste too much time finding what they need for a task.  I like to let the kids have a 5 or 10 minute transition or recess period while I get what we need out and ready for our next task.  This keeps me from unneeded frustration.

This year for art I am making a great space in my garage where paint can be splattered and other messes can be made so that we don't have to contend with these messes in the house.  This will allow for things to stay set up to come back to the next day.

This year we are also doing gardens for part of science.  Because is gets very cold here in the winter we will have an area of grow boxes in the garage under great lamps that will still allow things to be warm and grow.  This did not cost much and the garden is a great way for children to learn.
